the puck was moving and that's about it

That about sums up how the devils played. Nobody was moving there legs last night hate losing when they don't even put up a valiant effort. Oh well lets just hope this doesn't reoccur come playoff time.

It seems to be a reoccuring theme now... at first it was the third periods we had a hard time with whe having a lead. Now we play a game crap effort and no shots, and then we play good maybe even angry a couple of games and then back to no shots.

Yeah this has been a reoccuring theme of the last 3 games we lost all of em where a result of the other team simply outworking and wanting it more.

Parise-Henrique-Kovalchuk got outplayed by the Flyers fourth line.

THEIR (frank)ING FOURTH LINE.

Rinaldo-Couts-Talbot made them look like poop last night. From your top two players, that is absolutely pathetic. Sykora-Elias-Zubrus hasn't done poop since they've been put together.

If there was one bright spot to that game, it would have to be the play of Clarkson, Josefson, and Brodeur. Ponikarovski has dissappeared, he has played but not really played, hopefully he's saving it for the playoffs as he is a dominant player when he is on his game. Clarkson has been hands down our best forward in the past five games, if it wasn't for him, I don't know if we would've ever crossed the neutral zone with the puck.

Brodeur was solid last night, can't fault him much for any of the goals, except the third one of course. We played a great game defensively too, I might add. Their only two goals, the first one was as lucky as you can get, and the second one, it happens.

We had no sustained offensive pressure whatsoever. The forwards were pinned in our zone for a good minute, they would get it out, dump it in, and therefore, the Flyers would take the puck, skate it up the ice, with no pressure and we couldn't play our usual pressure system.

It was one game, I expected a bad game here and there from the Devils in this stretch. Unfortunately, it came to the Flyers, fortunately, they played like poop before the game I go to, which means that tomorrow is going to be a great (frank)ing game for the Devils.

Sorry, mb88, I had to vent.

their first PP of the game was excellent. they seemed to take a page out of the Islanders PP playbook and were really moving around the zone quite nicely. no idea why they stopped doing it in their successive PP's but thats been their problem all season long (dont know if it's coaching but Adam Oates needs to see that they weren't moving at all during the game and make an adjustment). key to a good playoff run: good coaching.

They never got set up after that, we only have one PP unit.

Fayne is like a pylon on the second one and he sucks on a PP unit.

I don't understand why we don't try Andy Greene on the second unit. I understand that we want the right handed shot at the point to more easily pass to Kovalchuk but still. It's not working with Fayne.

I was at the game it was ugly.
I defiantly agree with you about that matchup vs our first line. It looked like Boulton was out there half of the third period

honestly Matty T should be in the lineup over Fayne. The only asset Fayne has over Tao is his size, which is rarely uses. The guy also makes mistake after mistake on his passes in the offensive zone when on the PP. The main issue i feel is that the team under utilizes zach parise on their PP. The kid was wide open plenty of times but was overlooked b/c they always want to set up Kovy for his shot. The flyers clearly saw that and took the point away from the Devils every time they even came remotely close to setting up in the zone. Fire Adam Oates? Might be time.

Why is "fire adam oates" everybody's answer? Look at the powerplay now with Zidlicky. If you actually have somebody who can play the point there isn't a problem.

because when your PP consists of Kovy, Parise, Elias, Clarky you should be scoring a PP goal a game..minimum.

Parise isn't that offensively talented. His one timer isn't better than any of the forwards on the first unit, his shot isn't either. Parise is not really that good in a PP situation, to be honest. He is best going to the net and maybe a quick deke on a goalie.

I like when Clarkson moves out to where Elias usually is, except when they do this they should have Parise move to the slot while Clarkson is moving wide.

A power play usually goes 1/5 or around that mark.

You're not going to score every (frank)ing time on a power play. The best power play in the league is Nashville or Vancouver with like 22%. For every 100 times they are out there, they score 22. There is those other 78 times they don't score.

PP's don't always score, nor do they score every game. The PP has been working fine and eventually they will cash in. The Flyers played that first one beautifully, if one guy was off, then a play opens up. Unfortunately, they weren't.

Its a waste sitting him every game and getting no ice time either NHL or AHL

He's not playing over Fayne, just face it.

If anyone, he will play over Larsson, who has looked lost in the past two games.

Fayne is a good defenseman, he is not flashy, he gets the job done. He shouldn't be on the PP, that's for certain, but he's a good 5/6 d-man.

Call me crazy but I think Adam Larsson could benefit from some time in the AHL. Perhaps it's too late to send him down, but maybe just for a few games to send a reality check...Maybe it's time to swallow our pride.

I'm with you. Fayne is definitely a serviceable NHL defenseman.

No need to send him down. Just bench his ass.

Put Taormina in for two games, sit down with him like they did with Tedenby last year, let him rest and heal his back up some more.

im obviously exaggerating when i say a goal a game from the PP. thats extremely unrealistic but it should be much more consistent then it currently is (especially with the players on their first unit). Parise isn't a guy who fires lasers over a goalies shoulder, thats obviously Kovy's job but he is very very good around the net (as seen in his PP goal that made it 4-1 two games ago against Philly). he sets up on the red line every PP looking for a pass to get a quick shot/jam (whatever you want to call it) from in tight. that opens up lose scrambles infront of the net which is how the Flyers scored their 2nd goal last night. they need to stop doing fancy cross ice passing plays and start doing some dirty work down-low in the crease. that'll open up the backdoor play for elias on the opposite side too

Parise's jam play would be fine in 5 on 5 hockey but on the power play you're looking to set something up that has a higher percentage of scoring. Last game the main problem with the power play was that nobody could gain control of the puck in the zone. We need somebody who is better at taking faceoffs because we need to keep the puck in the zone from the beginning.

Def need a better faceoff man...hopefully Zajac can at leat play 4thline and PP it would be huge. Need two men in front did not screen or cause enough chaos around the crease. This time of year its whats needed to get it done and we did not do it the other night. Hopefully tommorow we get it done and bring the legs we need.

Wasted if not realized sorry
